The Honourable Dr Annabelle Bennett

The Honourable Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC was formally elected as Bond University's 8th Chancellor in 2016 following a distinguished career in the law which saw her serve 13 years as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Dr Bennett initially graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Science Degree and subsequently completed a PhD in Cell Biology. Later, she studied Law, practising as a barrister before becoming a Senior Counsel in New South Wales.

In addition to an appointment as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, Dr Bennett has served in several key judicial appointments, including Presidential Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and an Additional Judge of the Supreme Court of the ACT.

In 1998, she joined the Council of the Australian National University and served for over a decade as Pro Chancellor. She has also served as Chairman of the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Since retiring from her judicial career, Dr Bennett continues to share her passion and knowledge of the law, teaching and engaging with legal professionals in Australia and overseas.

Dr Bennett was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) in 2019 for eminent service to the law, and to the judiciary, particularly in the field of intellectual property, to higher education, and to sports arbitration.
